Born in Perth, Andrew graduated from the University of Western Australia (BMus & BArts - Specialist Music Studies) in 2012, before developing a successful teaching career in Perth, and performing both around Australia and internationally with a particular interest in opera, oratorio, contemporary music, and consort singing. Andrew relocated to Sydney in 2015 to join The Song Company – Australia’s leading vocal ensemble.
In 2016 he performs with Song Company, Pinchgut Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Cantillation, Halcyon, Moorambilla Voices, Leichardt Espresso Chorus, Forma Antiqva, Sydney Antiphony, Hourglass Ensemble, St Mary’s Cathedral Choir, Choir of St James’ and more. Engagements in 2015 included performances with New Zealand String Quartet, Australian Haydn Ensemble, Ensemble Offspring, Hourglass Ensemble, ANAM Strings & Winds, Sydney Antiphony, Sydney Symphony Orchestra Quartet, Australian Baroque Brass, and The Idea of North.
His operatic experience includes five years with West Australian Opera (2009 – 2014) including regional tours in South-West Australia and the Goldfields, and roles with independent opera companies including Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro), Papageno (Die Zauberflöte), Polyphemus (Acis & Galatea), Aeneas (Dido & Aeneas), Caronte (L’Orfeo), Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Zeus (Orfee aux Enfers), Die Totengraber (Die Rose die Pilgerfahrt), and creating the role of Daniel (Plains of Promise). In 2016 he joins Pinchgut Opera for their production of Handel's Theodora. On the concert platform he has performed as soloist in Johannes-Passion (J.S. Bach); Matthäus-Passion (J.S. Bach); Messiah (Handel); Saul (Handel) Te Deum (Charpentier); Seven Last Words on the Cross (Haydn); Coronation Mass, Spätzenmesse, & Great Mass in C Minor (Mozart); Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini); and the requiem settings of Mozart, Faure, and Durufle.
As a student, he also performed scenes from Albert Herring (Britten), La Boheme (Puccini), Rigoletto (Verdi), Les Peurles de Fischers (Bizet), Carmen (Bizet), La Cenerentola (Rossini), Cosi Fan Tutte (Mozart), and L'esir D'amore (Donizetti). Outside of opera, he has also performed the roles of Javert (Les Miserables), Miles Gloriosus (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), Tinman (The Wiz), Teen Angel (Grease) and has always had a strong interest in jazz and cabaret.
As a consort singer, he has sung across Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand, and China – performing with Cantillation, Sydney Antiphony, St George’ Cathedral Choir & Consort, The Giovanni Consort, and The Australian Voices Six. Domestically, he has performed in every state and territory of Australia, and sang in five seasons for the National Youth Choir of Australia. His discography includes three discs with St George's Cathedral Choir, two discs with Song Company, and a newly recorded disc with Sydney Antiphony. In 2014 he performed alongside the Song Company as a Sprogis-Woods-Smith Young Artist at the Canberra International Music Festival. Other festival appearances have included the Serenade! Festival (Washington DC), Adelaide Festival, Perth Winter Arts Festival, and the Perth International Arts Festival.
As an educator and choral conductor, Andrew has previously held positions at the Christ Church Grammar School, Claremont and John Septimus Roe Anglican Community School, Perth. In his new home of Sydney, Andrew has a small stable of private students. For more information, visit the education page.
