SONGS OF SUFFERING AND SALVATION

3:00pm, Saturday 28 March
St James' Church, King Street

J.S. Bach – St John Passion - The Choir of St James'

The Australian Haydn Ensemble

Richard Butler – Evangelist

Ever since its first performance in Leipzig on Good Friday 1724, J.S. Bach’s setting of the St John Passion has been a mainstay of the Lenten musical calendar in both concert hall and church. His sublime interpretation recounts the harrowing last days of Christ through dramatic narrative and human reflection.

"The St James’ Choir is not just any church choir. With impossibly great tuning, incredible blend and performing difficult repertoire to the highest standard, they are one of the best choirs in our country.”

Sally Cameron, The Idea of North
