Australian Vocal Ensemble (AVE) are on tour with our Tim Winton Project (The Long Moment) across April and May 2026. This project forms part of our activity across the year, with our second block of touring focusing on Queensland, but also taking in a couple of other cities.
AVÉ (Australian Vocal Ensemble) - The Long Moment
A new song cycle celebrating the words of Tim Winton AO
AVÉ (Australian Vocal Ensemble) brings together four of the country’s leading singers in a performance that places Australian composers and writers at its heart. In an intimate chamber setting, AVÉ presents newly commissioned works shaped by the words of Tim Winton AO. This is a must-see for classical, opera, a capella, fine music, and vocal choir fans.
The program features compositions by Emma Jayakumar, Ruben Davies, Lachlan Skipworth, Aaron Wyatt, Andrew O’Connor and Katie Noonan. With vocal works that respond to Winton’s unmistakable language in music that feels expansive and unmistakably Australian, the ensemble will also pay tribute to the golden age of vocal polyphony with AVÉ’s interpretations of music by Bach and Tomás Luis de Victoria.
Composer Development at the Queensland Conservatorium
AVÉ invites a small group of emerging composers into a focused two-day workshop exploring the possibilities of the human voice.
Working with unpublished texts, composers will develop new works shaped by narrative, language, and the unique tonal world of AVÉ’s one-voice-per-part SATB ensemble. This intimate setting allows for a detailed and responsive compositional process, where ideas can be tested, refined, and reimagined in close collaboration with the singers.
