It is my utter delight to be returning to Perth (my first soloist gig since before the pandemic!) to sing the iconic bass solos in Handel’s Messiah in December with the Perth Symphonic Chorus.

When I was a university student I used to sing in this Chorus (and the Collegium Musicum Chamber Choir) under Dr Margaret Pride – who was an important influence in my young career. To now be returning for this annual tradition as soloist (and my third Messiah for the month) will be very special.

All the more so because I will be back at His Majesty's Theatre (while the Perth Concert Hall is being renovated) which was my old home whilst singing with the West Australian Opera Chorus.

Presented by Perth Symphonic Chorus

A Christmas ritual in Perth, Messiah always delights audiences with spectacular singing and orchestral splendour.

Handel’s musical setting of the life of Jesus Christ is part narrative, part meditation. The chorus and vocal soloists lead us on a journey in three parts; prophecy and promise, praise and passion, eternity and exultation.

Soloists Emma Matthews AM, Ruth Burke, Matthew Reardon and Andrew O’Connor join with Perth Symphonic Chorus and Perth Baroque Orchestra to perform well-loved pieces like 'Rejoice Greatly', 'The Trumpet Shall Sound', the 'Amen Chorus' and the timeless 'Hallelujah Chorus'.

While the Perth Concert Hall redevelopment takes place, we are delighted to be performing Handel's Messiah in Perth’s home of theatre, music and arts, the 120-year-old His Majesty’s Theatre.
