It is my utter delight to be returning to Perth (my first soloist gig since before the pandemic!) to sing the iconic bass solos in Handel’s Messiah in December with the Perth Symphonic Chorus.

When I was a university student I used to sing in this Chorus (and the Collegium Musicum Chamber Choir) under Dr Margaret Pride – who was an important influence in my young career. To now be returning for this annual tradition as soloist (and my third Messiah for the month) will be very special.

All the more so because I will be back at His Majesty's Theatre (while the Perth Concert Hall is being renovated) which was my old home whilst singing with the West Australian Opera Chorus.

Details & Tickets to be announced here soon!

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE | 7.30PM | OCTOBER 30 & 1, 4, 6, & 8 NOVEMBER

THIS MINSTREL KNIGHT, WHO IN THE GARDEN SINGS WITH HIS LUTE AT MIDNIGHT.

This season of Il Trovatore is dedicated to the late Elke Neidhardt.

Il Trovatore (The Troubadour) is one of the most performed operas in the repertoire with an arresting plot that features high drama, trickery, ultimatums, betrayal and death. The opera premiered in 1853 and contains some of Verdi’s most passionate arias and inspiring choruses, exploring the deep intimacy of human relationships between fathers and daughters, mothers, sons and lovers. In Il Trovatore relationships are tested and, in the end, destroyed in the name of revenge. When a gypsy woman is burnt at the stake for allegedly bewitching a child of the noble di Luna family, the gypsy’s daughter, Azucena, witnessing her mother’s death, swears revenge. Azucena steals the child’s brother, intending to throw him into the flames of her mother’s burning pyre. However, in her torment she mistakenly throws in her own child. Horrified by her mistake she brings up the young Count Manrico as her own child, knowing that one day she might use him to achieve her revenge upon the child’s real family.
